How To Run A Hair SalonHi Steve here.... Right first of all there is not a universal way of how to run a hair salon.. it really depends on the type of hairdressing salon business you have. However there are some things you need to keep in mind! What are they? Well one really important thing to remember is that you need to identify the type of clients you want first, then its easy to employ the right type of people to service them. What do you mean Steve? Think it thru... do you want clients that have loads of disposable cash or are you after young clients that only seem to have money the day after payday! You see where you put your focus is where you get your results...am I right! If your focusing on really trendy, fashionable hair cuts then you will get clients that want that... If your focusing on customer service then you will get clients that want fantastic customer service. So what does that mean to me! It means that.... "what you focus on is what you get..." Ok look think about this for a sec.. When you are running a hair salon, are you focusing on what your staff or team or whatever you want to call them...are you focusing on them being late and untidy in the salon or are you focusing on how they looked after there client and how fantastic there last haircut was. Listen we are not all perfect, I have a stylist in one of my salons who is quite often late and it drives me crazy...and its so easy for me to focus on that however she is a fantastic stylist and looks after her clients like you would not believe...they love her!! so I have to focus on that. Have you gone Stark Bonkers mad Steve!! NO I am not saying its OK for her to be late and yes I do reprimand her, but my focus has to be on how she makes her clients feel FANTASTIC. Listen Up! Ask many hairdressers what they do for a living and they will say " well I cut hair" and if you ask ok but what else do you do they will probably reply..." I cut hair, color hair, do the occasional perm and every now and again I put someone's hair up" am I right!! You bet I am. So what's my point? Well if that's where there focus lies then that's what they will do.. the odd hair up the odd perm cut someone's hair and colour some ones hair. So what's wrong with that after all that's what I employed them to do Right? NO WRONG...You employed them to make your salon clients look and feel FANTASTIC... you see it goes further than a hair cut. You only have to ask a woman or a man who has had a bad haircut to understand that its more than a bad haircut. It can make them feel terrible it can ruin their holiday their week...think about the times you have had a client complain...they always tell you how bad they feel...am I right! But you know what today its not only about the haircut its about the whole salon experience...thats just as important, and with more and more salons opening up every day you have to take that on board. So when you are thinking about how to run a hair salon consider where your focus is... and what systems and measures you can put into place to make your salon the only choice and what will make your hair salon run like clock work!! Catch you later Steve
